BUSINESS & INDUSTRY INCENTIVES
When Doug Ford followed through with his campaign promise to cancel green energy rebate programs, funded by the cap-and-trade program, it left many energy managers wondering which programs were still available for their businesses.
The Green Energy Act was introduced by the previous Liberal government in 2009 in a bid to grow the province’s solar and wind energy supply.
Included in the cancelled programs was the Green Ontario Fund (GreenON) programs, providing homeowners with rebates for such things as ground source heat pumps (up to $20,000), home insulation (up to $7,200), and energy efficient windows (up to $5,000).
Fortunately, Ontario’s Save-On-Energy rebate program is funded through the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), and therefore was not affected by the cancelled cap-and-trade programs.
This means business and industry can still take advantage of generous rebates to help offset the cost of installing energy-saving products and services.
Below is a partial list of eligible rebates for business/industry projects:
-
Lighting retrofits & lighting controls (Yay!)
-
HVAC redesign
-
Chiller replacement
-
Variable-speed drives
-
Improvements of a building envelopes thermal performance
